General Information

The Streets Department is part of Public Works and is responsible for maintaining over 80 miles of paved roads and numerous alleys and right of ways, many of which are not paved. The Streets Division is also responsible for traffic control activities and stormwater management.
Pavement maintenance activities consist of sweeping, cleaning, patching, pavement repair, pavement reconstruction, seal coats, chip seals and crack sealing.
Alley and right of way activities include grading, patching, sidewalks, curbs, gutters, concrete replacement, raising settled concrete and crack sealing.
Traffic control involves sign installation and replacement, painting and striping, construction signing, cones, barricades and street lights. This includes installation and maintenance of all pavement markings, handicap markings, railroad markings and crosswalks.
Stormwater responsibility is shared by the Streets and Wastewater Departments. The storm response issues are handled best by the Street Department who can respond during storm events as they are already managing the leaves, ice, snow and debris.
